Blog Class Event by Yara Michels from thischikgotstyle.com

As you may have noticed I haven’t been very active on my blog lately. The main reason for that was that I didn’t exactly knew which way I wanted to go with my blog. 

I couldn’t decided wheter I wanted to blog in dutch or English or couldn't  figure out how I was going  to stand out in this saturated piece called fashionblogs.

As you may have read in other posts: I started blogging 5 years ago for other websites. I enjoyd blogging for them so much that I randomly decided to start my own blog. Perky assumed that I would get the same amount of readers and so, just out of the blue, I started this blog 6 months ago without any strategy to start with. 

Bieng a communication student, I should have known better : I need a (better) strategy. (and a name for my bloggggg!)

A couple of weeks ago, I was visiting Yara Michels well-know blog: thischikgotstyle.com which announced a physical blog class event. I was thrilled and signed up right a way. So I was kind of bummed when I didn’t heard anything…. That was until last Friday: They called me to let me know I  could attend the blog class this Saturday: excited!

Because the place were the event was held is a 2 hour trip, I decided to go to bed early and get up early .. well, that didn’t work: I overslept and woke up 20 minutes before my train left…ending up doing my hair and make-up in an overcrowded train while standing. (paint yourself the picture of what the result of that looks like ). 

Because of the rush I was in I forget to take my camera , bloc note and – not so futile- paint my nails.    Anyway, the event: 

First of all: This chick is a GREAT presenter, convincing and effective, serious but made room for humour. Loved it. Also notable: Yara welcomed each and everyone personally at the door. 

I have been to a lot of classes/lectures etc and usually the guest /head speaker , comes up 5 minutes before the presentation and will disappears quick and quietly, afterwards.

Her presentation started of with some information about herself and the way she started her blog. 

She started 5 years ago with no strategy plan at all: “ 5 years ago there was no plan needed, now you need a good plan, you will not get very far without one”. So there is my step one ;)!

She explained to us: 

• The importance of consistency: try to blog everyday and make yourself a blog-schedule (which content on which day?) 
• Put emotions to your content: Describe why do you love/dislike something so much. 
• Illustrations: Decided whether or not and on which level the images on your blog is important for your blog (or theme of your blog) + create and maintain your own signature in photography.
• Social media: Social media works as an extension of your blog; don’t spam! 

Off course she told us a lot more (such as business and your fashionblog), but next week their will be an extra edition of the blog class, so can't give it all away right ;)!

Afterwards there was time to ask some questions and have drinks with the team ofthischikgotstyle.com and other bloggers. Unfortunately I had to leave almost right after the blog class , so I had to miss that =(.
